xDREAM growth program: Rolls Royce and Lufthansa invest at the Erfurt interchange

With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, N3 Engine Overhaul Services – a joint venture of Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce – gave the starting signal for another construction phase of a future-oriented investment on July 17, 2025.

Following the recent topping-out ceremony for the new production hall, construction has now begun on a state-of-the-art logistics center at the Arnstadt site. The total investment for the expansion amounts to approximately 150 million euros.

A three-story building complex covering 19,500 square meters will be constructed by 2027, its centerpiece being a fully automated high-bay warehouse measuring 26 meters high and 123 meters long. The new facility is designed not only to centrally control and analyze storage processes in real time, but also to significantly increase the efficiency and scalability of engine maintenance.

In addition to the warehouse, modern office and social spaces are being built, including changing rooms for around 560 employees and workstations for over 30 staff members. The project is part of the comprehensive "xDREAM" growth program, with which N3 aims to increase its capacity to up to 250 refurbished engines per year – a significant jump compared to the 155 engines last year.

“An aircraft engine consists of up to 20,000 individual parts – each one must be in the right place at the right time,” emphasizes Managing Director Stefan Landes. “With the new logistics center, we are creating the foundation for future-oriented processes and further growth.”

N3, with approximately 1,100 employees, is already one of the largest employers at the Erfurt interchange. A further 100 jobs are expected to be added in the coming years. This investment underscores not only the shareholders' confidence in Thuringia as a business location, but also the strategic importance of the Erfurt interchange as a logistics hub in the heart of Germany.
