Milestones
On the way to becoming a modern business, investment and technology location

1992
LEG was founded in Erfurt on May 15, 1992. Its mission is to act as an instrument of the state government, promoting the development of Thuringia as an investment and business location and improving the quality of life in the Free State.

1993
The start of one of Germany's largest urban development projects: LEG is acquiring land from the Treuhandanstalt (Trust Agency) in the former industrial site of Erfurt-Brühl and will develop the inner-city area into a vibrant district in the coming years.

1995
The Thuringian State Economic Development Corporation (TLW) will be integrated into the LEG. The State Development Corporation will henceforth be responsible for attracting investors and marketing Thuringia.

1996
On the Kindel in Eisenach, a site once used for military purposes, LEG begins the development; as a result, the area develops into an attractive industrial location, providing space for a large number of companies, especially from the vehicle manufacturing sector.

1997
LEG takes over regional management in the “city triangle on the Saale bend” and promotes a large number of projects in the three cities of Saalfeld, Rudolstadt and Bad Blankenburg over the following 15 years.

LEG begins developing the former industrial site Kyffhäuserhütte Artern; in the same year, the conversion project “neues bauen am horn” in Weimar, with which LEG is realizing innovative projects for the living of the future, is an EXPO project.

2004
In Schleusingen, LEG has taken stock of the project's progress: The goal of the comprehensive urban renewal has been largely achieved. Listed buildings have been upgraded, squares have been given a new ambiance, and the old town exudes attractiveness.

2005
With the start of the development of the new industrial site “Erfurter Kreuz” in Arnstadt, LEG is launching a real success story: In just a few years, the new site will attract well-known companies such as Daimler, Masdar PV, Lufthansa, Rolls-Royce, Bosch and IHI.

2007
LEG is committed to reconciling work and family life: In the middle of the year, the "LEG Summer School" for employees' children will premiere. Five years later, in April 2012, LEG, together with the city of Erfurt and partner companies, will celebrate the launch of its own company-run daycare center.

2008
Ringelberg continues to grow: With the start of the fourth construction phase, LEG is steadily driving forward the development of the largest residential area in Thuringia, thus ensuring a better quality of life in the state capital.

2010
The newly founded Thuringian Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA) will be located within the LEG and, on behalf of the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, will drive forward the development of the Free State into the "green engine" in Germany.

2011
The looming skilled worker shortage is being tackled head-on: The Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) will launch in the spring. It will promote Thuringia as a place to work, target commuters, and collaborate within a network.

2012
LEG is becoming even more international: With the official launch of the "Thuringia International" division, LEG is expanding its activities in the foreign trade sector and focusing on target markets from the USA to China and from Brazil to Russia.

2012
The Thuringian Cluster Management (ThCM) is being established as an instrument for the expansion and establishment of clusters. As part of the implementation of the Thuringian Innovation Strategy, the state government is locating the RIS3 office within the ThCM to coordinate the implementation process.

2013
In September, the " Welcome Center Thuringia " will open on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. It will be a comprehensive contact and advisory center for foreign skilled workers as well as for Thuringian companies that want to recruit employees from abroad.

2014

2015
The 3rd Thuringian State Garden Show will open in Schmalkalden on April 25th. LEG acted as the urban renewal agency here; among other things, it renovated the western suburbs and expanded the local transport hub at the train station.

2016
LEG is completing extensive restoration and site preparation work at the Rudolstadt-Schwarza site – this will benefit the companies at the site and enable or facilitate the establishment of new companies.
